And The Oscar Goes To...

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Oscars or the Red Carpet this year. When one gets invited to dinner at abcV one must go. I was, however, periodically checking my Explore page on Instagram and was getting excited at all the red carpet fashion I was seeing. Now that all the statuettes have been handed out and press photos are uploaded, it is time for me to comment on my favorite looks.

Ready? Here we go.

Charlize Theron

Karl Lagerfeld once said “One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress” and Charlize Theron last night proved how right he was. This Dior Haute Couture dress is timeless, elegant, and makes an impact without being flashy. I love the corsetry and the draped sleeve that falls off the shoulder- Simply Gawjus.

Renée Zellwegger

Renée Zellwegger looked like the Oscar winner she is in this stunning white Armani one sleeved gown. The dress sparkled both on stage and on the red carpet with all of that delicate beading. From head to toe I thought this look was epitomized perfection.

Rita Wilson

I love fringe. I love beaded fringe. I love sparkle. I LOVE THIS DRESS. The color, the fit, the fringe. It was beautiful standing still and in motion. I know for certain if I had this dress I would be shimmying in it all night (no shame).

Brie Larson

Do I really need to explain why I love this look? Do I? LOOK AT HER! The color, the beading, the cape...this Celine dress is EVERYTHING. She may not have been nominated but she certainly won the night in this gown.

Natalie Portman

This black and gold Dior Haute Couture dress is striking. Despite being a (mostly) black dress, there is a lightness to it that is beautiful. And the cape (stay tuned for my fashion week post where I go into further detail about my love for a well-made cape) adds regality. Also, if you look closely, embroidered in gold are the names of women directors who were snubbed at this year's awards. Hey Sergio from Project Runway, this is how you use fashion to make a political statement.

Janelle Monáe

I am all for taking fashion risks and this is a risk that worked. This silver, fully beaded, hooded Ralph Lauren gown could defeat Thanos. Prove me wrong.

Julia Butters

This Christian Siriano dress left me speechless. TBH, when I first saw it I wasn’t sure whether I loved or hated it. Again, I admire anyone who is willing to take a fashion risk, especially someone so young on such a big stage. But the color is perfect and she is styled like the modern Disney princess we all wished we could be one day.

Lucy Boynton

One needs only to look at Lucy Boynton’s Instagram to see that she is fashionably fearless. I get excited to see what she wears on the red carpet and this Chanel gown did not disappoint. The details in the look are everything- the plaid accents on the sleeve, the tuxedo style shirt front, the bows on the belt, the pearls...All I can say is FLAWLESS.

One thing I would like to say is that with a simple hem, most of these gowns could fit on a little person. Yes, I am aware that you could probably make at least one more gown with the fabric that would be left on the cutting room floor but still...the point is that these dresses can work one someone like me. I am waiting for the day when I see someone like me on the red carpet at the Oscars. It will come...and I can’t wait to see what they’re wearing.
