Who I'm Looking Up To: Aleen Kuperman and Sami Fishbein

Every Sunday I follow the same routine. I wake up, throw on some workout clothes, grab my headphones, jump on my bike and start pedaling. For the next hour or so I tune out the world and tune into one of my favorite podcasts, Diet Starts Tomorrow

Sami Fishbein and Aleen Kuperman, co-founders of Betches

Diet Starts Tomorrow is a podcast from Betches media hosted by Betches co-founders Sami Fishbein and Aleen Kuperman. I’ve been a loyal listener since the beginning in 2018. Each episode, Sami and Aleen explore a topic related to health and wellness. Nothing is off-limits as both have delved deep into their own wellness journeys, their struggles with weight and body image, and their opinions on the wellness industry. They’ve hosted some inspirational guests such as employees of Betches, fitness trainer Jordan Syatt, Denise Bidot- the first plus-size model to walk the runway at New York Fashion Week, Noah Neiman- the co-founder of Rumble, and Anne Mahlum- the founder of solidcore...just to name a few. However, my favorite episodes are the ones where Sami and Aleen sit down and talk it out, just the two of them.

Listening to them week after week inspired me to be more open about my struggles with my body and to accept my body no matter the shape it’s in. I found the confidence to work out in a sports bra. I stopped punishing myself for taking a rest day or having a second glass of wine. I learned to appreciate my body and all the amazing things it allows me to do like walk, talk, breathe.

Aleen and Sami did more than just start a podcast, they created a community whose membership spreads from coast to coast of loyal listeners who support one another on a daily basis. Through them I’ve found workout partners, healthy recipes, and a place where struggles are turned to strengths.

Sami, Aleen and the DST’ers inspire me on a weekly, if not daily, basis; they are challenging an industry that says if you don’t look a certain way, then you will never fit in. Through thicc and thin they are there week after week to say it is okay to be who you are and that no one has the right to say otherwise.
